Brazil is now one of the few countries of the world to have an online database covering the nation’s entire list of identified plants. It required assistance from 413 taxonomists to assemble this comprehensive inventory. The major initiative; to catalog the world’s plant diversity before 2010, was launched in the 2002 Global Strategy for Plant Conservation and later incorporated in the Convention on Biological Diversity. The second step in the Global Strategy is to assess the threat status of each plant in the list. This information will form a basis in future conservation actions. In countries around the world measures are taken to gather a complete list of native plants, many times in collaboration with Botanic Gardens. Read more>>  [1]
