Capacity Building

The aim of this work area was to improve capacities on conservation and use of CWR in the three three partner countries and in the SADC region.

Based on an initial training needs and assessment, carried out in each project country as well as at SADC regional level, two regional training workshops on in situ conservation, diversity assessment, pre-breeding and predictive characterization of CWR were developed and held in 2014 in Mauritius and 2015 South Africa, providing training to 41 scientists from 14 SADC member countries.

Focused working sessions and online collaboration between project staff in the countries and scientists from Bioversity International and University of Birmingham supported the diversity assessment, conservation planning and the development of national strategic action plans for CWR conservation in each country.
