Conservation planning tools

The following tools have been developed to assist in the compilation of CWR species and occurrence data, in carrying out conservation planning and conservation strategy development. These tools will also contribute to standardize data and reduce errors.

Interactive toolkit for CWR conservation planning: Interactive web site that provides guidance to plan and implement systematic and active in situ and ex situ conservation of CWR at national level. The conservation recommendations that result from this national CWR conservation planning process can be used to develop conservation strategies or National Strategic Action Plans (NSAP) for the conservation and sustainable use of CWR.

CWR checklist and inventory data template: This MS Excel template supports the systematic compilation of CWR species level data required to produce CWR checklists and inventories.

Occurrence data collation template (MS Excel): This template is available to support the collation of CWR occurrence data from various sources of data (herbarium vouchers, gene bank accessions, online databases, bibliographic references, field observations, etc.). It allows to extract the necessary fields to be able to run the CAPFITOGEN tools (http://www.capfitogen.net) which support conservation planning  exercises such as ecogeographic diversity analysis, hotspot and complementarity analyses, predictive characterization, SDM, etc.

National Strategic Action Plan template (MS Word): This template provides an example into which sections a National Strategic Action Plan can be structured.

Technical background template (MS Word): This template has been developed to support the documentation of the policy framework, procedures and results of CWR checklist development, prioritization, diversity assessment and conservation planning, which are required to develop a national conservation strategy or a National Strategic Action Plan for conservation and sustainable use of CWR.

Activities

2.1: Develop science, technology and innovation toolkits for the conservation and use of CWR

2.2: Pilot test the draft toolkits in each participating partner country

2.3: Publish and distribute widely the CWR toolkits
